About our Volunteers

The Gitanmaax Volunteer Fire Department respond to many emergency and non-emergency incidents. The first and most obvious is responding to house fires. Our fire department are a group of highly trained men who all have years of experience going into burning buildings. They also respond to calls for grass fires that are out of control, chimney fires, fire alarms in our schools and community hall, and lift assists for the ambulance.
Another large part of what the Fire Department does is educate the community on fire safety. Mostly they focus on kids from pre-k to grade 12, going into schools and teaching about the importance of fire prevention and what to do in case of emergency. They also educate our elders during events like the elders lunches.
