The Gitanmaax Health and Wellness Centre is committed to servicing the Gitanmaax Membership. We facilitate and organize programs to be done around the community or in our building.

Healthy Child Development
Giving our children a headstart
The Gitanmaax Health and Wellness Centre delivers the following programs for our youth:
​
Aboriginal Head Start - This on-reserve program is managed and delivered by the Gitanmaax Band Education Department in collaboration with the Gitanmaax Health and Wellness Centre.
​
Maternal Child Health - The Gitxsan Health Society continues to manage and deliver the Maternal Child Health program. Gitanmaax Health and Wellness Centre is responsive to the program, but receives no funding to administer the program.
​
The Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program - The Community Health Nurse provides incentives and support to pre-natal and post-natal mothers during pregnancy and up to one year after baby is born.
Mental Wellness
Creating a Positive Mindset
The Gitanmaax Health and Wellness Centre delivers the following programs for our members:
​
Brighter Futures - The Health Centre manages and facilitates this program, with the goal being to promote health and prevent ill-health through learning-related activities that will increase awareness, change attitudes, build knowledge and enhance skills. Arts and Recreation Workers will facilitate programs for Youth 6-18, elders, and families respectively.
​
Building Healthy Communities - The Health Centre works with wellness workers in our community to provide support for members who need assistance. The wellness worker position offers preventative services including education, harm reduction, emphasizing wellness behaviours, assisting in recovery and providing support in aftercare.

Keeping You Going
The Gitanmaax Health and Wellness Centre delivers the following programs for our members:

Community Health Promotion - The Health Centre contracts one Occupational Therapist and 2.5 Physical Therapists to service Gitanmaax members.
​
Aboriginal Diabetes Program - The Gitxsan Health Society continues to manage and deliver the diabetes program through the Wellness Centre.
Communicable Disease Control and Management
Keeping the Community Safe
The Gitanmaax Health and Wellness Centre delivers the following programs for our members:

Communicable Disease Control - The Wellness Centre organizes immunization coverage for the unimmunized, immunocompromised and infants. COVID-19 vaccination clinics are organized for our membership through this program.
​
Aboriginal Diabetes Program - The Gitxsan Health Society continues to manage and deliver the diabetes program through the Wellness Centre.
Home and Community Care
Bringing Our Services to You
The Gitanmaax Health and Wellness Centre delivers the following programs for our members:
​
First Nations Community Care - Home and Community Care is a coordinated system of services that enables Gitanmaax members of all ages with disabilities, chronic or acute illnesses to receive needed care in their homes and community.
​
Care is delivered primarily by home care registered nurses and trained, certified personal care workers. Service deliver is based on assessed need and follows a case management process.
Medical Transportation
The Gitanmaax Health and Wellness Centre delivers the following programs for our members:

Medical Transportation -The Gitxsan Health Society continues to manage and deliver the Supplementary Health Benefits Program in Gitanmaax through the Wellness Centre.
